Morphadoodles let out a collective gasp when they saw the face of Dr. Stalk peering out at them from behind the trunk of Laborastory's giant oak.  The face of the usually cool and green as a cucumber scientist was undeniably BEET RED!!

"I thought I was staring at Mars," whispered Yoyodoodle.

"I thought one of my giant tomato plants had sprouted up overnight," added Zoey.

"Phone the Professor," Horatio peeped.  "He'll know what to doodle."

So Stalk called Electra.  The following words were heard as he turned away from his friends and walked deeper into the forest.  "I do NOT blush!  I am NOT in love!  I have NOTHING to be embarrassed about!"  After a moment he said, "Well yes, I did stand in the cranberry bog all day.  We are harvesting the crop, you know...Yes, my friend.  I stood in it for HOURS.  No, I did not wear protective boots.  In case you have not noticed, I do not have any FEET!"  And then only silence could be heard- a silence that was finally broken by Stalk's unexpected burst of laughter.

"That purple professor pretty much knows it all," he said beaming as he returned to his companions.  I am not having an EMOTIONAL reaction- I am having a CAPILLARY action.  It is extremely scientific.  Let me explain."  Invited to listen, the morphadoodles drew near.

"My body looks like a celery stick.  A celery stick has little tubes (called xylem) inside of it that look like straws.  These 'straws' start at the bottom of the celery and go all the way to the top of it.  They are the tubes that carry water from the ground to all parts of the plant.  Well, Electra pointed out that I spent the whole day working in the cranberry bog.  The cranberry bog is filled with cranberries- so many churning cranberries that the water had changed color.  It was just a matter of time before those little 'straws' pulled that newly-colored water to the top of my head and turned it RED.  No blush, no fuss, no bother."

With that, Dr. Stalk turned to leave.  "If anyone needs me, I'll be standing in a vat of broccoli juice.  Think Green!"
