Eyeclops

"Electra," said Dr. Stalk to his purple partner who had entered the Lab still wearing his nightcap and blinking sleep from his eyes, "I realize I've woken you from some much-needed rest, but I thought that you of all Morphadoodles needed to see what is happening with the doodle and data in beaker #02459."  He motioned with one green leafy hand to a corner of the Lab where several multi-colored mixtures were in various phases of morphing.  When Electra's eyes settled on the trembling contents of #02459, they became wide and began to bob on the ends of their stalks.  Staring back at him from the gelling mixture was a pair of eyes bobbing on the ends of their stalks.  "Could it be be?" he asked as he side-stepped toward it, his little legs moving faster than they had ever moved.  "Did someone make me a brother?"

The morphing doodle grew still, closed his blue eyes, and lowered his brown stalks.  "He's a shy one," whispered the Doctor as he read from his copy of the doodle data.  "His name is Eyeclops and he has a pet named Frizzy."  "A dog?" asked Electra nervously as he stepped back from the beaker that was about to burst and free the completed Morphadoodle.  "You know, some dogs tend to roll me around like a bowling ball if they find me on the beach- and it can get very uncomfortable."  "Not to worry,"  assured Stalk as he read on.  "Apparently, Eyeclops does not like dogs and actually fears bowling balls."

Professor Electra smiled.  "We certainly have a lot in common," he said.  When the beaker cracked apart, he raised his ever-present camera and expected to see a short roundish (though brownish) look-alike through the lens.  But it was not to be.  Eyeclops was tall, with a great wing span, and flippers on the ends of his arms.  Electra snapped several photos with tears in his eyes.  Dr. Stalk walked over and put his arm around his friend's unspiked shoulder.  "Electra," he said, "you may not look like brothers, but you still have a lot in common."

Eyeclops bent down so that his eyestalks were level with the purple professor's.  "Do you like adventure?" he asked in a voice that was both gentle and kind.  "Oh yes, I thrive on it," said Electra.  "I travel the world in a hot air balloon, and I climb icebergs for entertainment."  Eyeclops smiled.  "Do you like sports?" he asked.  "Do I like sports?" Electra chortled.  "Why I was one of the official photographers at the Beijing Olympics.  I ate pizza with Michael Phelps after he won his eighth gold medal!!"  "You know Michael Phelps?" Eyeclops gasped.  "I want to be just like him!  I want to compete for the gold in 2012!"

Electra scuttled over to a drawer and pulled out a pair of goggles and a whistle on a chain.  He handed Eyeclops the goggles and hung the whistle around his neck right next to his camera.  "No time like the present to start practicing!" he shouted and jumped into Eyeclops's powerful arms.  "Your legs are a lot longer and a lot faster than mine, my friend.  If you hurry, we can get to the lake just as the sun is about to rise.  I have a jet ski there that we can take to the other side.  We have an Olympic-sized swimming pool that's just minutes from the dock."

In a flash of green, brown, and purple, Electra and Eyeclops dashed into the dawning day.  As Dr. Stalk closed the door behind the two fast friends, he heard them shout, "We'll call ourselves Team E!  E for Electra!  E for Eyeclops!  E for Energy!  And E for Excitement!"
