Deedle Dum

A Most Curious Morphadoodle
Professor Electra had a curious experience the day that he visited England's Daresbury Laboratory, a major scientific research center. After completing a tour of the facilities, he was thrilled to discover that the village of Daresbury was also the birthplace of one of his favorite authors, Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (better-known as Lewis Carroll), creator of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass with Alice.
Electra quickly scuttled across town to the Daresbury Church to admire the stained glass Lewis Carroll Memorial Window. There he saw five striking panels containing some of his favorite characters: the white rabbit, the dormouse, and even the mad hatter. "But where are Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum?" he wondered. He decided to rest in a shady spot and enjoy the view. Imagine how surprised he was to find himself sitting next to an odd-looking, blue and yellow mushroom with a tiny sign that read, "Morph me." Unable to contain his excitement he rushed back to the Laborastory to study this most mysterious mushroom with his colleague.
Dr. Stalk's EYE bulged with wonder. "Well, my dear Professor, there's a strange fungus among us. With over 38,000 varieties of mushrooms on earth, not even one comes close to resembling this specimen." Electra picked up his magnifying glass to get a better look. "It appears to have writing carved along the edge of its cap, but it looks like gibberish to me. Here take a look." He passed the magnifying glass to Dr. Stalk.
"It's not nonsense. It's mirror writing," said Stalk quickly pulling a small mirror out of his lab coat pocket. Holding the mirror behind the mushroom, Stalk began to read:
- Name: Deedle Dee (Tweedle Dee's 3rd cousin twice removed)
- Likes to sit still (hates all forms of exercise, especially running)
- Numismatist
- Philatelist
- Follows all the rules
- Serious
- Loves the dark
- Adores beets
- Abhors pizza
- Plays cards (loves Victorian card tricks)
"Curiouser and curiouser," Stalk murmured. "It says here that we need to add a playing card to the morphing formula- a joker to be precise."
"That must be a mistake. A jack of spades perhaps. But a joker?" Electra wondered.
"Now, now Electra, you know that we need to follow the instructions to the letter if we want our experiment to succeed," warned Stalk. "Just think how wonderful it will be to have another sophisticated fellow join us in our work."
Electra dropped the joker into the test tube containing the mushroom and the secret morphing formula and held his breath. Within seconds, two long and floppy blue ears began to squeeze their way out of the narrow tube, followed by a pair of round, mischievous eyes. "You were expecting a proper English gentleman, my brother Deedle Dee, but my name is Deedle Dum, and you got ME! April Fools!!!"
Stalk and Electra stared in amazement as the blue creature struggled to free his rotund bottom from the test tube. "I'm quick as lightning, the life of the party, a real prankster. Don't give me any beets; I prefer pizza. By the way is there a bowling alley nearby? I need to work on my gutter ball."
